Shasta Resources Council

   Background

Our Mission

The mission of the Shasta Resources Council (SRC) is to convert federal land located on the west side of Redding to local public ownership and preserve it in perpetuity for public benefit. Our focus is on parcels or portions thereof that have been slated for disposal by the Bureau of Land Management (BLM). Preservation for public use and protection of natural environment is crucial to sustaining our community’s future in a manner that is as rich as its past. We have relied upon the land’s recreation, natural open space, ecologic and historic resource values for generations. Preeminent is Area 51, long dear to the community. Ownership will go to a local government or other nonprofit entity able to manage the land in the public interest. We envision a Shasta Natural Park System to be enjoyed for many generations to come.

The SRC is a public nonprofit corporation registered with the State of California. We are an all volunteer organization. A variety of professional disciplines are represented on the Council. Our group is both eager and well-qualified to undertake its mission and has established the legal foundation to act effectively in carrying it out.
