Shasta Resources Council
Our Mission

Shasta is ecologically sensitive, topographically challenged, dangerously wildfire-prone and resource-intensive to develop. The land use pattern is highly fragmented due to sharply irregular terrain and incised stream corridors. Infrastructure is stretched circuitously and sized necessarily to serve only the existing density. This all means that growth pressure must be contained within the extents of Redding’s existing physical infrastructure where it can be most effectively and efficiently accommodated.

Rational urban development, preservation of public land, and protection of natural environment are crucial to sustaining our community's future in a manner that is as rich as its past. Over 2000 acres of federal land now designated for disposal are within the Shasta community and the area of interest of the SRC. We have relied upon and respected the recreation, natural open space, ecologic and historic resource values of this land for generations. Now we must act decisively and aggressively to defend these values from profiteering by speculators and developers, and the exploitation of sprawl economics by the BLM.

The SRC is a public nonprofit corporation registered with the State of California giving us the legal foundation to act effectively in carrying out our mission. We are an all volunteer organization. A variety of professional disciplines are represented on the Council. Volunteer time and resources are contributed directly in support of SRC projects and activities as they evolve. Our lead group and many other community volunteers are both eager and qualified to take on the challenges ahead.
